Inspection
- Are all lifejackets in good condition?
- Are the attached lights operational and within their expiry date?
- Are the whistles firmly secured by lanyard?
- Are the retro reflective tapes in good condition?
- Are the straps in good condition?
- Are the lifejackets being provided with quick clip donning arrangement (for vessels having keel laying on or after 1 July 2010)?
- Are the ship's name and port registry clearly marked?
- Are the lifejackets being stowed in the approved spaces as per Safety Plan?
- Are the lifejackets clearly marked with respective IMO symbol?
- Are the type specific donning instructions posted on all decks including wheelhouse & ECR?
- Are all lifejackets able to fit all shipboard personnel? Note: The oversized lifejackets are designed to fit persons weighting up to 140 kg and with chest girth of up to 1,750 mm.
Common Poor Practices
- Lifejacket lights found burst.
- Lifejacket lights found expired.
- Retro reflective tapes found in poor condition.
- Ship's name and port registry were not clearly marked.
- Lifejackets were not provided with quick clip donning arrangement while the vessel was built after 2010.
