Inspection
- Are the liferafts properly stowed and ready for immediate use?
- Are the foundations in good condition?
- Are the containers in good order and waterproof?
- Are the specific use and launching instructions clearly displayed?
- Are the containers clearly marked with manufacture name and trademark, serial number, name of certifying authority, number of persons carried, SOLAS emergency pack enclosed, date of the last service and stowage maximum height?
- Is the painter, lashing, weak link on painter in good order?
- Is the painter permanently attached to the ship?
- Is the shackle of sliding hook in good order?
- Is the ID card tube in good order and the card properly updated?
- Is the HRU in valid and properly rigged? Note: HRU is not required for liferafts stowed at forward.
- When multiple liferafts are connected to a single HRU, is each liferaft equipped with its own weak link?
- Is evidence of regular inspection on board?
Service / Certification
- Are the liferafts being annually serviced at an authorized service station?
- Are inspection certificates available?
- When annual inspection is carried out remotely, is dedicated training provided to the crew by the manufacturer?
Common Poor Practices
- The HRU was not properly rigged.
- Forward liferaft was secured by using bottle screw instead of pelican hook.
- Few containers were found with signs of soft patches and cracks.
- The liferaft was not stowed on horizontal position.
- The ID card was not updated.
