Mooring Lines & Tails Selection Criteria
2022-01-13
Mooring Lines & Tails Selection Criteria
- The Line Design Break Force (LDBF) of the mooring rope or wire shall be 100 - 105% of SDMBL. For instance, if the SDMBL is 64 T, the LDBF shall be 64 - 67 T.
- The Working Load Limit (WLL) of the synthetic mooring rope shall be 50% of SDMBL.
- The Working Load Limit (WLL) of the mooring wire shall be 55% of SDMBL.
- Specific terminal requirements shall be taken into consideration in terms of selection of line's material, length and diameter.
- The Tail Design Break Force (TDBF) of the synthetic mooring tail shall be 125 - 130% of SDMBL.
- The mooring tail length shall be normally between 11 m and 22 m. Specific terminal requirements shall be also taken into consideration.
- Mooring lines and tails test certificates shall be provided in line with MEG4 Appendix B.
- Manufacturer's data sheet (user's manual) shall be provided in line with MEG4 Appendix B.
- Mooring lines and tails shall be tagged corresponding to their certificates.
- Rightship requires type approval certificates to be available on board.
Ship Design MBL Determination
- For ships built to MEG4 (2018), the SDMBL will be recorded in Mooring Arrangement Plan.
- For ships built prior to MEG 4 (2018), SDMBL calculation should be conducted by expertized office..
- The industry also supports that the SDMBL is synonymous with "Design Rope MBL (Line Design MBL)" which might be mentioned in Mooring Management Plan as following:
