Inspection
- Is the VDR monitor free of caution alarms?
- Are all Deck Officers able to demonstrate the back-up procedures?
- Are back-up procedures posted next to the unit?
- Are VDR batteries in date? Note: Performance test shall be carried out in case of battery replacement)
- Is fixed acoustic beacon free of rust / cracks?
- Are the retro reflective tapes of fixed acoustic beacon in good condition?
- Is fixed acoustic beacon battery in date?
- Is float free capsule HRU in date and its expiry date marked?
- Are float free capsule operating instructions legible?
Service / Certification
- Is Annual Performance Test certificate available?
- Is the Certificate of Compliance (COC) available?
Common Poor Practices
- Unreported caution alarms were indicated in the monitor.
- The back-up procedures were not posted in the vicinity of the unit.
- The fixed acoustic beacon was found with deteriorated retro reflective tapes.
- The fixed acoustic beacon was found corroded.
